In 1896 Frank and Perry Remy opened an electrical wiring business in Indiana, USA. The innovative brothers incorporated the Remy Electric Company in 1901. By 1910 Perry had turned his magneto protoypes and experiments into 50,000 production units a Year! 

In the early days the Remy brothers main competitor was Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company, DELCO for short, a company that also manufactured ignition equipment and generators. In 1916 both Remy and Delco were purchased by the United Motor Company and then subsequentially by General Motor's in 1918. It was General Motors who amalgamated the two competitors into the legendary electrical component brand Delco Remy
